SILK Award for Outstanding Service

Dian Gomes, one of the most influential figures in Sri Lankan sport over the past two decades, has been honoured with the prestigious SILK award for the Most Outstanding Personal Contribution to promote sports in Sri Lanka, recognising a lifetime of leadership that transformed boxing, introduced fencing and created opportunities for hundreds of athletes across the country. From the boxing ring to international sports administration, Gomes has played the role of a true game changer. At times when resources were scarce and sports struggled for support, he stepped forward with vision, funding and determination. Gomes served as president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka during two important periods from 2004 to 2009 and again from 2017 to 2024.

The International Boxing Association fully supports the new project in Sri Lanka to make that happen in the upcoming short period of time. Mr. Dian Gomes was the President of Sri Lanka Boxing and during his leadership the country’s boxing earned several historic results including their fantastic three bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Governance Storm Rocks Boxing AGM

Sri Lanka Boxing found itself in hot waters on Friday after former boxing chief Dian Gomes and current International Boxing Association (IBA) Director accused the current administration of breaking sports laws and failing to come clean on key financial matters during a controversial Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Ministry of Sports in Colombo. The meeting went ahead despite strong protests from several members, who argued that the AGM should not have been held without audited financial statements approved by the Auditor General’s Department, a requirement under Sports Law No.25 of 1973.
